Media Freedom and Freedom of Expression in Africa- Free Course

We want to let you know that registration is now open for a free six-week Wits University online course, “Media Freedom and Freedom of Expression in Africa”, aimed at empowering activists, students, regulators, journalists, lawyers, and anyone interested in ensuring a free, pluralistic and independent African media.

The course begins on Friday 4 October, 2019.

It covers:

·         freedom of expression, media freedom, access to information;

·         policy and practice in support of democratic media ecosystems;

·         media pluralism and diversity;

·         self-regulation, co-regulation, statutory regulation, regulatory independence;

·         policy and regulatory implications of online media; and

·         civil society engagement.

Coursematerials include short downloadablevideo lectures byAfrican media policy experts; case studiesof African media policy and practice; discussion forums; and multiple-choice assessments to ensure comprehension. The course is free to all participants. Participants wishing to also receive a Verified Certificate of Achievement endorsed by edX and Wits University can do one additional multiple-choice assessment and pay USD49.
